If you have adult teeth that you want to protect from tooth decay, Dr. Steven A. Beuligmann may recommend that you receive dental sealants in Carlsbad, California. Dental sealants are comprised of a thin plastic coating that bonds to the chewing surface of molars and blocks cavity-causing bacteria, plaque, and acid.
Daily brushing and flossing will keep your mouth fairly clean and free of cavities. However, if your teeth have deep grooves that a toothbrush can’t reach, a dental sealant would be very helpful in protecting your teeth from decay.
The process of applying dental sealants to your teeth is both quick and painless.
First, Dr. Steven A. Beuligmann cleans and etches the surface of the tooth to allow the dental sealant to bond to it. Then, he dabs liquid sealant onto the chewing surface of the tooth, allowing it to flow into the grooves. Finally, a special dental flashlight, known as a “curing” light, will bond the sealant to the tooth in about 30 seconds.
When the sealant is fully hardened, Dr. Steven A. Beuligmann will evaluate his work to ensure the tooth is ready to be used again. If the sealant is too thick and will interfere with your bite, Dr. Steven A. Beuligmann will buff off the excess. The tooth can now be cleaned and chewed upon as normal.
