Severe tooth decay on one of your teeth, might cause so much damage to the interior of the tooth that it needs to be extracted. This missing tooth can compromise you’re your ability to chew food and have a serious negative impact on your quality of life. In time the void left by the missing tooth can cause the neighboring teeth to twist or even start to move to fill the area. This can lead to alignment issues with your bite.
At Steven A. Beuligmann, DDS Inc we can often restore the full function, structure and appearance of the missing tooth, by restoring it with a bridge. A bridge essentially mimics the appearance of a natural tooth. It is fused to a pair of crowns, that are anchored on abutments formed from the neighboring teeth.
Your dentist at Steven A. Beuligmann, DDS Inc will form the abutments by removing a large amount of enamel from each of the neighboring teeth. A little enamel is left to protect the healthy interior of the teeth.
Your dentist will then create an impression of the abutments, the void and your personal bite pattern. This will be used as a guide for the dental lab that makes your new bridge. Temporary crowns, are then cemented over each abutment to protect them during the interim.
Once the dental lab has completed your bridge, Steven A. Beuligmann, DDS Inc will call you back in for a brief second appointment. The temporary crowns are removed and your dentist will cement the permanent bridge in place.
