Would you rather go to the dental office and hear “Great job” or “Way to maintain a strong oral health” than “You have six cavities” or “You have more cavities than teeth”? If so, we are here to help you turn your appointments around and back in the right direction! Tooth decay is a common dental problem but it is very inconvenient, irritating, and painful, and we recommend doing the following things if you wish to eliminate tooth decay from your smile permanently:
1. Brush your teeth twice a day and after you eat each meal. While you brush, use fluoride toothpaste. This will nourish and strengthen your smile and give you a high chance of avoiding cavities.
2. Use bacteria-killing or fluoride mouthwash at least once a day. Put a small amount of rinse in your mouth and swish it around for about 30-40 seconds. When the time is up, spit the liquid into the sink. Rinsing your mouth with mouthwash every day will give your smile the best chance at fighting bacteria, decay, and infection.
3. Get a professional teeth cleaning every six months. These appointments are very important and they are vital if you wish to have the best oral health possible. During these appointments, your teeth will be deeply cleaned, your teeth will be nourished, and dental problems will be prevented, like tooth decay and gum disease.
4. Consider dental sealants. Dental sealants are beneficial solutions to avoiding tooth decay. They are plastic coatings that cover your teeth and shield them from tooth decay and other dental problems.
5. Watch what you eat. If you do your best to eat and drink healthy foods and drinks that are good for your teeth, like milk, water, fruit, vegetables, and meat, then your smile will have a good chance at preventing decay. If you eat and drink sugary foods and drinks, like soda, candies, and cookies, then make sure you brush your teeth after you do so.
